Dyeing for a solution
I would like to reply to the letter from the Hairdressing and Beauty Suppliers’ Association (HBSA) (HJ 27 August – 2 September).
We first introduced the idea of generic sensitivity testing to the hair colour manufacturers at the start of our project with Cranfield University, almost three years ago. The letter from HBSA now marks the start of what we hope will be a constructive dialogue with the major hair colour suppliers with regards to the issue of sensitivity and the professional hairdresser.
A consortium of multinational hair dye manufacturers with estimated sales of £480 million per annum in the UK alone, should embrace innovation with open arms, and what is required now is support for a practical solution that will help identify clients who may be allergic to the main allergens found in hair dye.
We would like to meet with HBSA members to discuss the concerns of the thousands of salons that support an industry-wide change to the issues relating to sensitivity.
Now, together with the industry, we can work towards the resolution of issues that have been the long-term burden of the professional hairdresser.
