The Colourstart story
The concept of Colourstart was first introduced by Brian Plunkett, founder of Trichocare Diagnostics and the European Section of Trichology.
As a practicing consultant Trichologist, Brian had expressed concerns to the major hair colour manufactures over the increasing hyper allergenic reactions he was seeing in patients using permanent hair dyes.
The methods of testing for sensitivity to hair dye products had not changed for over 50 years, although it has been published that the incidence of allergic responses, the severity, and the complexity of reactions had all increased dramatically.
The recommended methods for testing were impractical and therefore rarely used. The problem needed to be addressed.
As a result, Colourstart has been developed and tested over the last 2 years in conjunction with Cranfield University's Institute of BioScience and Technology.
The development of the product has been possible as a result of a Department of Trade & Industry Award for Innovation and Trichocare were finalists and commended for Colourstart at the Innovation Awards 2004.
